Biodegradable film packaging personal care products

<

Trefon, a German company, signed a contract with the United States Nature2Works to sell and promote biodegradable plastic film-packed personal care products made from corn.

NatureWorks (formerly Cargill) develops and manufactures polylactic acid (PLA) resins for a variety of packaging applications. Trefan Corporation uses PLA to produce plastic packaging films under the trade name Biophan.

Due to consumer concerns about the environment, newly established recycling regulations, and rising oil prices, many factors promote the demand for non-oil-based biodegradable packaging. The market is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 20%. Trefan hopes to expand the market share of its products in the European market through the cooperation of the two companies. In addition to the packaging of personal care products such as cosmetics, Biophan can also be used for packaging of food and office automation equipment. It has the following comprehensive properties: high gloss, transparency, good printability and heat sealability. Industrial landfilled Biophan degrades completely into carbon dioxide and water within 45 days. (Tang Weijia)
